It’s 5am

We were all awake at 3 o’clock this morning. Daniel was working, Kai was starving (he’s learning what happens when you reject all the food you’re offered), the cat was watching for the right moment to attack us and I was just along for the ride.

We played for awhile, but eventually despite his best efforts, Kai feel asleep. The cat closed her eyes while curled up in her corner, satisfied that she could take over another day. The relaxing music and low lights had their equal affect on the hardworking father of the house. And as soon as I press “publish” I will join them all in silent bliss.

But there’s something about this moment. The quiet moment when a whole family, who could all be in bed, gather on the couch to spend time together, no matter what that time looks like. And the peace of the early morning suddenly feels different. Different than it normally would while laying in bed. And while the couch may not be as comfortable as my many pillows, it’s just as sweet this morning because I’m with my family.
