We’re on a roll

Keeping up with my child just became a whole lot harder. Once I could just plop him on a blanket in the middle of a field knowing he wouldn’t roll off because he refused to touch the grass. Then it was as easy as watching him crawl around the house as long as I stayed close enough for a quick lunge to grab something from his hands. As he walked away I was grateful that our house was not a large mansion. Running around I felt so bad for parents whose kids jump before looking. Kai is a cautious kid in many ways, thank goodness. But now that he has “mastered” the skill of the scooter, he has moved not just to a new outer circle of my orbit. He’s now moved beyond it.

I don’t know what it is about this new level of mobility that has me seeing my child as a whole different kid. It just highlights the capability he’s been growing for years.

He’s still learning, as are we. It turns out, toddler scooter practice is a great opportunity for shoe quality testing. But honestly, this is my favorite type of destruction. Let’s wear out all our things having fun!
